An environment that connects people and where you feel at home, that is the most important aspect of the new Grotius building of the Faculty of Law of the Radboud University in Nijmegen. In a number of workshops Studio Groen+Schild investigated with students, teachers and professors what the appearance of the interior of the new law faculty would be. What do they expect of the building? The outcome: respect for tradition, but focused on the future. In the interior it has been translated into many wooden elements and the color green but also many contemporary design.
Classical elements are given a modern twist. A good example are the specially designed bookcase facades of glass and wood for the office rooms of the academic staff. The characteristic green of the famous lamps in ancient classical libraries can be found as accents in the entrance hall, the library, study rooms, and in the office environment. The furniture is surrounded by attractive rooms with materials like stone, wood, glass and leather.
