Machine factory Zandhuis & Zwart is a factory building from the 1930s. The building consists of a blacksmith shop and workshop and was designed by architect Maarten van Harte. He has several industrial buildings to his name in Deventer. Commissioned by Advicus, Studio Groen+Schild has made a design for the repurposing of this industrial heritage. There will be nine homes in total. The two directors' residences owned by Messrs Zandhuis and Zwart will remain independent residences. Three homes will be built in the forge. Four new homes will be built in the workshop behind the machine factory. The spaces have been carefully fitted with respect for the existing. The apartments all have beautiful industrial details in sight; the beautiful window frames and original steel beams. The buildings are made more sustainable through post-insulation, additional glass and a gas-free installation. The implementation has started and the old advertising text on the facade has already been restored by volunteers from the Deventer Industrial Heritage Foundation, the SIED.
