Until recently, the CKE was housed at two locations. Our client's ambition was to bring all the art education together in one dynamic, open and welcoming building. However, in order to realise this, one of the locations would have to be disregarded and so the decision was made that the former music school would be renovated and extended. A completely new floor with classrooms for visual art and multifunctional halls for dance and theatre was created. A section of the ground floor has been lowered in order to enhance contact with the city and to create an open stage. The addition of a second façade with steel slats have provided the building with a new identity. The metamorphosis is especially visible in the evenings as night begins to fall. It is as if the building opens itself up: the activities can be seen and passersby are invited to come in to the House of Amateur Art.
