The Dutch consulates are located in anonymous office buildings. The design challenge was to create two representative consulates that are recognizable as Dutch consulates.
We have created a timeless and light design with many natural materials. Light wooden floors, bamboo walls, and plenty of glass were used. The design focuses on a natural transition between spaces. It is based on the principles of Feng Shui, a request from the users. The materials used in both consulates are the same, but the colors differ: ochre yellow in Shanghai and Chinese red in Guangzhou.
The furniture is integrated into the design as much as possible. Consular desks, writing desks, waiting benches, and cabinets have been designed by us and are part of the design. The loose furniture consists of Dutch classics (Gispen) and contemporary furniture in traditional rib fabrics.
