Commissioned by the SVE Group, and together with Mulderblauw, Studio Vinke, Atelier Loos van Vliet and Lüchinger Architects, we are working on the transformation of the former Roto Smeets location in our hometown, Deventer. The ambition for the redevelopment of the area is to realize a surprisingly urban and sustainable living and working area. The historical stratification of the area is an important theme. The industrial heritage of the printing company with its shed roofs is retained and becomes one of the hotspots in the new neighbourhood. The combination of living and working contributes to the economic development of Deventer. Thanks to its location at the intersection of different areas, ROTO seems to be the perfect location to serve as a "junction" of the three economic profiles of Deventer, open information city, fascinating experience city and sustainable manufacturing city. Together with the rich history of the site, ROTO becomes a dynamic neighbourhood where living and working go hand in hand. In the coming period, Studio Groen+Schild will continue to work on the completion of the Master Plan with the design team. As an architect we are involved in the design for the re-use of the industrial heritage and part of the new commuting buildings.
