The municipality hall of Apeldoorn has been renovated; the public area is now light and open, the working environment flexible, and the building consumes less energy. Studio Groen+Schild was commissioned for the architectural design and interior design.

Contact with the city was one of the ambitions of the municipal government. To achieve this, a three-story atrium was created on the side facing the Marktplein. The transparent facade was designed in collaboration with the architect of the original building, Hans Ruijssenaars. Natural light now penetrates deep into the building, connecting the public spaces with each other and with the city.

The second ambition was to create a vital interior for the next 25 years. Long corridors with closed offices on either side have been replaced with an open and flexible working environment. The outdated installations have been replaced, and the building has been fitted with HR++ glass. Climate ceilings ensure a pleasant indoor climate. Much of the existing furniture has been reused and supplemented with new, more contemporary pieces.

For the materialization, we have developed a clear concept. New elements are recognizable in color and materialization and detailed separately from the structure. The building from 1992 is constructed with white painted brick, deep dark blue steel, and white marble. We have added wood, upholstery, and color to this palette.
