A second life for a valuable building from the 1950s, that was the starting point for the redevelopment of the Nijlandschool in Apeldoorn. The school building has been transformed into apartments on behalf of Van Wijnen Projectontwikkeling Oost.
The facade rhythm, the steel window frames, and the existing corridor structure form the DNA of the architecture. With this DNA as a starting point, we designed 16 city apartments in the old school. At the front of the building, it appears as if nothing has changed. The steel window frames have been restored, and the facade has been cleaned. The building has been insulated on the inside, and secondary windows have been installed behind the steel window frames. At the rear, you can see that the building has been given a new function. Here, the most significant addition is visible: new hanging balconies in steel and wood. In addition, we have added multiple openings to the facade to access the gallery, gardens, and balconies.
All new elements have one color, a warm brass color. So, you can easily see what is old and what is new. An important characteristic of our signature style.
